Here at SA Metal we have 1 goal: to bring metal information to the San Antonio masses. It may regard local bands, or national bands, but we want San Antonio to be the most knowledgeable metal town around. This is no easy feat, especially for a blog that currently has very few readers. However, Keep San Antonio Metal is doing their best to make sure that San Antonio does not become another haven for indie bands. So go check out their website here, and purchase a Keep San Antonio Metal t-shirt while you’re there. Be proud of your music!

And start interacting more with us! We want to provide the most informative and interesting metal website for San Antonio, but without feedback that’s impossible.

Over the weekend I had a really interesting conversation with a lady who believed the only reason that the majority of women weren’t interested in sports/science/cars (the list goes on) was due to how they were raised. She believed that most women have “Princess” shoved down their throats at a very early age, which gives young females a preconceived notion concerning how they are supposed to act.
This would explain why seeing women at a metal concert or in a metal band is such a rare occurrence. Sure the amount of women in metal has increased by over 100% in the past 30 years, but you still see them being objectified by not only fans, but also “metal” magazines.
So why do you believe there are so few women interested in metal?

After the jump check out a few of the better female-fronted metal bands:

I’m currently on lunch break, and very bored as I have already eaten my ramen noodles, so I decided to post a few links to some new music.
Skeletonwitch has 2 new songs, which can currently be streamed here. Their new album, titled Breathing the Fire, will be released on Oct. 13. Check out how metal the album artwork is:

If that doesn’t put you in a good mood, then go laugh at all of the hipster crap Pitchfork decided was better than any of the Mastodon records here.
More updates after the jump:

Unfortunately, we were unable to make it to The Mix last night, but tonight will be a different story. Groove Movement, who play an amazing combination of Jazz and Soul, will be playing at The Mix tonight, making the trip over well worth it. Check out their MySpace for some music videos. They may not be metal, but their music is amazing nonetheless.
The main event tonight, however, will be taking place over at Scout Bar, where Metal Shop will be performing. Although Groove Movement plays original material, Metal Shop is purely an 80′s Hair Metal cover band. Mixing Hair Metal and booze on a Friday night never sounded so fucking good. Go watch them cover “Eruption” by Van Halen.

We’ve finally finished posting all of the planned October metal releases here, so check ‘em out! We didn’t spend 2 hours compiling that list for nothing…
Although October may not end up being quite the metal month September was, it definitely has some heavy hitters that are sure to take the scene on by storm!
Speaking of Storm, SA Metal is planning on disguising ourselves as Marvel comic book characters this Halloween so we can create mayhem and anarchy all across San Antonio. So if you run into somebody that looks like Mr. Fantastic on Oct. 31, do the citizens of San Antonio a favor and buy the superhero a drink!

If you’ve looked at the local concerts that we’ve posted on the website, you would know that tonight at the mix Alice in Chains are playing. Well actually they are called Jar of Flies, and are obviously an AIC cover band, but they are really fucking good, and since there is no cover and the beer is relatively cheap, we would strongly suggest that you go check them out. We’ll definitely be there tonight, so you can buy us a beer as appreciation for putting this blog together.
Speaking of AIC, do yourself a huge favor and go purchase their new album Black Gives Way to Blue right now. All I’ve heard is how Duvall can’t replace Layne, which, although true, shouldn’t deter one from listening to some kick ass heavy metal.

You can check out their new single “Check My Brain” here.
